AFL Sydney Team of the Week - Round Eight

The race for a finals spot is really heating up as we enter the final week of the AFL Sydney Women's Premier Division home and away season. And with a finals spot still very much up for grabs--Round Eight certainly did not disappoint.

Manly Warringah bounced back after their first loss of the year to defeat UTS in a rather one-sided 12.5 (77) to 1.4 (10) clash while East Coast backed up their impressive upset win with a dominant 8.12 (60) to 0.1 (1) win over the Pennant Hills Demons.

North Shore stay in finals contention thanks to a 5.2 (32) to 0.5 (5) win over Macquarie University, while UNSW's woes continued as they were easily brushed aside during the most one-sided clash this round--with Inner West coming out 91 point winners, 12.19 (91) to 0.0 (0).

But the game of the round was easily the Sydney University and Southern Power clash--with just seven points separating the two sides. The Power's 4.9 (33) to 4.2 (26) win sees them hold onto second spot while Sydney Uni will need a big win against North Shore next week to re-enter a finals position.

Scroll down to see a this round's team plus a small breakdown of the squad.

Captain: Georgia Garnett Vice-Captain: Rebecca Privitelli

A great weekend of footy means a very even spread of players represented. East Coast lead the way with four named players, while the Bombers, Magpies, Power and Wolves all follow suit with three each.

As for the leaders, the Captaincy goes to a very familiar name in Georgia Garnett after yet another Best on ground performance for the Eagles. The Vice-Captaincy goes to Rebecca Privitelli following her four goal performance for the Magpies.

Joining this week's Captain at halfback is Macquarie University's Best on Ground, Elise Franco--while the pockets are home to Manly Warringah's Roxy Beuzeville and Southern Power's Jemima Wrigley, and full back is reserved for North Shoe's Frances Dalton.

The midfield is once again home to North Shore's Nicola Barr, as well as East Coast's Sarah Ford and Inner West's Best on Ground, Eilish Sheerin. The followers are home to our Vice-Captain Privitelli, as well as UNSW's Best on Ground, Shelby Koh, and Isabella Rudolph who kicked three goals during the Wolves' bounce back win.

Following her two goal performance for the Eagles, Brenna Tarrant once again finds herself in our Team of the Week--alongside Louise Stephenson from Sydney Uni. The forward pockets are reserved for Inner West's Elyse Glynn and UTS's Best on Ground, Jessica Quade. While sitting proudly at full forward following her four goal performance for the Wolves is Jessica Doyle.

This week's interchange is home to East Coast's Bryany parker, as well as Pennant Hills' Hayley Lowe, Sydney Uni's Chaylee Reeve, and Southern Power's Nicholle Cooke-Hayes.

The final three spots in our Round Eight AFL Sydney Team of the Week belong to Maltilda Eder from North Shore, Ella Heads from Inner West, and Natalie Murray from the Southern Power.
