AFL Sydney Team of the Week - Round Seven
Updated: Sep 10, 2020
A week is a long time in footy, but what a week it was for the East Coast Eagles. Round Six saw the side suffer a goalless defeat at the hands of North Shore--which wasn't very reassuring as the side had to face the undefeated Wolves in the Round Seven. But not only did the Eagles bounce back, but they did it in spectacular fashion, knocking off the undefeated leaders, 8.2 (50) to 1.6 (12).
But that is not the only talking point from Round Seven, as we also got to witness the first draw of the 2020 season--with Macquarie University and UTS finishing the match at 2.3 (15) apiece. We were also close to seeing two draws on the same day, with just one goal separating Inner West from Sydney University, 5.4 (34) to 4.4 (28).
From close games to blow outs, Round Seven also saw North Shore push aside Pennant Hills to win 9.11 (65) to 1.3 (9), while Southern Power wracked up 27 scoring shots while on their way to a 99-point win over UNSW, 15.12 (102) to 0.3 (3).

Captain: Georgia Garnett
Vice-Captain: Emily Eaves
East Coast's bounce-back win against the then undefeated Wolves has been honoured in this week's side as Eagles sit with the equal most named players with four--alongside the 99-point winners, Southern Power. Closely following these two are Sydney University and North Shore who both have three players represented in this week's side.
Keeping with the East Coast Eagles and Southern Power theme, these two impressive winners also make up this week's leadership group--with a familiar name and the Eagles Best on Ground, Georgia Garnett, receiving the Captaincy while the Vice-Captaincy goes to the Powers Best on Ground who booted three goals during their big win, Emily Eaves.
Joining our Captain on the halfback line is Claudia Gunjaca who was as the named Best on Ground for UTS, while the Wolves second best in Ashleigh Carter is named in the back pocket, alongside North Shore's Krista Limbrey and Shelby Koh from UNSW.
Kiara Beesley from the Southern Power finds herself on the wing opposite from Sydney University's Best on Ground, Jennifer Lew--while in the centre is the Bombers' Best on Ground from their big win, Nicola Barr. This week's followers is home to Grace Hill from UTS, as well as Tracy Rantall from Inner West and Kelsey Hutton from Pennant Hills.
A familiar name from the Eagles who was also named as their second Best on Ground finds herself at half forward in Brenna Tarrant--alongside Georgia Walker who booted three goals for the Bombers. Also named up forward is Ashlee McClure who booted four goals for the Power and Lucy Gilfedder who booted four goals for Sydney Uni--and finishing off a trio of quadruple goalkickers is Taylah Davies who kicked four goals for the Eagles.
This week's interchange is home to our Vice-Captain, as well as the Magpies' Best on ground, Eilish Sheerin, and Macquarie University's Best on Ground, Chloe Davis. Keeping with the Best on Ground players, the interchange is also home to the Wolves best on in Jessica Layton.
The final three spots in our Round Seven AFL Sydney Team of the Week belong to Mikaela Mohony from Sydney Uni, Broode Mowbray from the Power, and Georgina Fowler from the Eagles.
