AFLW Player of the Week (Round 5)
We are now entering the final stretch of the AFL Women’s home and away season, with just three weeks left to decide who will make the finals.
As with any round, Round Five gave us a lot of standout performances but it also had a lot of one-sided games, with every match on the weekend being decided by three or more goals.
And of course, we have taken all these into consideration and have come up with our AFLW Player of the Week for Round Five.
These honourable mentions go to the players who either just missed out on making the top three or to the players that received several nominations by our followers.
Kaitlyn Ashmore (North Melbourne) – 11 disposals, four marks and four goals.
Madison Prespakis (Carlton) - 26 disposals, two marks and three tackles.
Jamie Stanton (Gold Coast) – 23 disposals, five tackles and a goal.
#3. Chloe Molloy (Collingwood)
Chloe Molloy’s goal tally for 2020 now sits at four, thanks to her impressive performance on the weekend that saw her boot three goals during the Magpies win over the Bulldogs. Add to this, 12 disposals and six marks, and it equals arguably her best overall performance so far this season.
#2. Cora Staunton (GWS)
Both the GWS Giants and Cora Staunton enjoyed stand out performances on the weekend. The Giants booted seven goals to one, which resulted in a 45-point win over Richmond. As for Cora Staunton, she ended up booting over half of the Giants goals, finishing the match with four goals as well as 11 disposals and six marks.
#1. Jasmine Garner (North Melbourne)
North Melbourne had many stand outs during their 42-point victory over the Adelaide Crows, but it is difficult to look past Jasmine Garner. Backing up her impressive victory from round four, Jasmine collected 24 disposals, seven marks and four tackles. She also booted two goals which sees her goal tally for 2020 now sit at five, remarkably however, she has kicked exactly five goals a year for the past three seasons, so let’s see if she can set a new personal record.
