GSFL Women's Team of the Week - Round Four

Round Four sees the Magpies and the Eagles swoop, the Bulldogs maul, and the Demons bounce back in spectacular fashion.

A slow start proved very costly during Yankalilla's clash against the reigning premiers. The Tigers conceded three unanswered goals during the opening term which allowed the Eagles, who were well-supplied by Sally Fuller, to steam home to win, 10.4 (64) to 3.3 (21).

Willunga strung together four quarters of great footy while on their way to an impressive 59-point win over Strathalbyn, 9.8 (62) to 0.3 (3). Averaging two goals a term, the Demons kept the Roosters goalless for the duration of the match which is certainly not an easy feat.

Goolwa flexed their muscle by recording ten individual goalkickers during their 85-point win over Encounter Bay, 12.13 (85) to 0.0 (0). Melissa Ramsey was the only Magpie to kick more than one as the side kicked away after quarter time to win easily.

Tyler Garrett and Mykala Walker-Murphy combined for ten goals during the ladder-leading Bulldogs crushing win over Victor Harbor, 22.10 (142) to 0.0 (0). Kicking six straight goals during the opening term, Mt Compass continue to build themselves a case as the team to beat.

Captain: Mykala Walker-Murphy Vice-Captain: Asha Bell

Each GSFLW side has been represented in our Round Four Team of the Week by at least one player. But it is the two big winners, Mt Compass and Willunga, who lead the way this week with five named players, closely followed behind by McLaren and Goolwa.

The Round Four Captain is a Mt Compass forward who showed her deadliness in front of goal, with Mykala Walker-Murphy earning the captaincy after booting five majors for the Bulldogs. The Vice-Captain is the reliable and consistent Magpies midfielder, Asha Bell.

The forward line plays host to our Round Four Captain, with Mykala Walker-Murphy headlining this week's attack after kicking five goals during a Best on Ground performance for the Bulldogs. She is joined by fellow Bulldog Tyler Garrett, who also finished with five majors.

A pair of Eagles also call our forward line home, with Sally Fuller, the winner of 2020 Grand Final Best on Ground medal, making the side on the back of a four goal display. She is joined by Jenna Bowles who collected two majors of her own during McLaren's win.

Young gun Demons' forward, Jessica Harris joins the side once again, this time on the back of a three goal performance. She is joined by Goolwa's Melissa Ramsey who booted three majors during the Magpies massive Round Four win.

Rucking duties belong to a very reliable Eagle performer and the 2020 premiership ruck, Jessica Veasey, who was a strong contributor for an even stronger side.

Amongst the followers is our Round Four Vice-Captain, Asha Bell, whose efforts for Goolwa earned herself their Best on Ground title as well as one addition to her goal tally.

A consistent performer for the blue and gold also makes an appearance this week, with Sherrie Hurrell joining the side on the back of a Best on Ground performance for the Bays.

Named on the outer is Demi Sharp, whose impressive start to the 2021 season sees the talented Bulldog once again make our side. Also on the outer is Ruby Flanagan-Sjoberg, an exciting young Eagle who is continuing to impress in her new colours.

Splitting the two wings up is a Demon who caused some headaches on the weekend, with Kristen Rothwell joining the side after booting an equal-game high of three majors.

A Tiger trio makes up half of this week's defense, with the experienced veteran, Helen Maidment, joining Yank's Round Four Best on Ground, Colbie Frankland, and their exciting South Adelaide listed youngster, Jemma Ellis.

Also named down back is Ella Thomas and Courtney Mesecke, a talented Rooster duo who had to face off against a classy Demon outfit.

The final spot down back belongs to the rebounding Demon defender, Caitlin Radbone.

Adding some x-factor to this week's rotations is a pair of exciting Mt Compass pups, with Brooke Boileau joining Kiahni Russell after they finished with two goals and four goals respectively.

Ella Radbone, the very versatile Willunga product, joins the side this week after earning Best on Ground honours during her side's impressive bounce back win. Rounding out the rotations is Amber McKinlay, the talented Magpie who enjoyed a day out in Round Four.

The final two spots in our Round Four GSFLW Team of the Week belong to Victor Harbor's Round Four Best on Ground Courtney Marks, and a familiar Demons' performer in Katrice Turner.
