GSFL Womens Team of the Week - Round Three

Round Three sees Strathalbyn hold-off Goolwa, Mt Compass claim a statement making win over Willunga, and Yankalilla join the winners list in spectacular fashion.

After a weekend off, the GSFLW teams were back in action with the results for Round Three including Yankalilla's first win and Willunga's first loss of 2021.

Strathalbyn sit top after three weeks of footy and do so after celebrating Morgan Tucker's fiftieth match with a hard-fought win over Goolwa. The Roosters, who were tied with the Magpies at halftime, broke away in the second half to win, 5.4 (34) to 3.4 (22).

A seven-goal second term set up Yankalilla's massive 131 point win over Victor Harbor, their first of 2021. The Tigers kicked an inaccurate 2.8 (20) during the opening term, but soon made up for it as they booted 6.1 (37) during the second term to lead by 57 points at halftime. The consistent performance of Daisy Blencowe was one highlight for the Kangaroos, who ended up falling to a 19.17 (131) to 0.0 (0) defeat.

Things were no better for Victor Harbor's crosstown rival Encounter Bay, who lost to McLaren 11.9 (75) to 0.0 (0). The Battle of the Eagles saw South Adelaide forward Sheena Peters kick four for McLaren while second-gamer Bianca Coom finished with two.

Mt Compass finished Round Three with a statement making win over Willunga. The Bulldogs, who were well-supplied through Stacey Dale and Brooke Boileau, burst out of the box with a four goal opening term while on their way towards a 9.7 (61) to 4.1 (25) win. Jessica Harris was impressive once again for the Demons, finishing with three goals.

Captain: Leah Bailey Vice-Captain: Stacey Dale

Each of the GSFLW sides have been represented in our Round Three side by at least one player. Yet it is Yankalilla who lead the way with five Tigers named in our side following their massive win which catapulted them to fifth on the ladder.

The Round Three Captain is a young Yankalilla product and South Adelaide listed player, Leah Bailey, who earned Best on Ground honours after an impressive display which included three goals. The Vice-Captain is a Mt Compass midfielder and their Round Three Best on Ground, Stacey Dale.

This week's side is headlined by a streak of Tigers, with two of these players calling our forward line home. Kimberly Robinson and Jasmine Smith combined for nine goals on the weekend, five of which came from the former.

Our Round Three side is also home to a convocation of Eagles, with three of these players also making up this week's attack. South Adelaide forward Sheena Peters joins McLaren second-gamer Bianca Coom up forward after the two combined for six goals--four of which came via Sheena.

Their joined in the attack by McLaren teammate Ally Bailey, whose impressive display earned herself Best on Ground honours during the Eagles' big Round Three win.

The final spot in this week's forward line belongs to the 2020 GSFLW Leading Goalkicker, Emily Cozamanis, who added to her 2021 tally with two majors during Strathalbyn's win.

Rucking duties belong to Goolwa's Rachel Searle, who impressed during the Magpies hard-fought loss. While a familiar named Demon midfielder in Kristen Rothwell joins the side on the wing.

She is joined on-ball by our Round Three Team of the Week Captain, Leah Bailey. This crafty and fast-paced Tiger was one of many highlights during Yankalilla's win, perhaps typified by her three goals and her earning of the Tigers' Best on Ground title.

A trio of Mt Compass talent rounds out this week's followers and midfield, with Demi Sharp, Linda Shute and Stacey Dale all being named as starters. Demi continued her solid start to 2021 with another solid performance, while Linda added three goals to her tally, and Stacey's impressive display earnt her the Vice-Captaincy of our Round Three side.

A duo of talented Tigers calls this week's backline home, with Emily Sowter and Colbie Frankland both impressing for the yellow and back. They are joined down back by Willunga's Courtney Gutschmidt and McLaren's Emily Rowe.

A very familiar named defender from Willunga, Caitlin Radbone, also joins the side for this week. Meanwhile, the Best on Ground from Victor Harbor's lackluster Round Three result, Joanne Spriggs, rounds out this week's defense.

An experienced duo makes up this week's rotations, with Strathalbyn's Jaymie Hammond joining fellow Rooster/South Adelaide Captain, Elyse Haylock. Both of whom played well to give Morgan Tucker a fitting end to her fiftieth match.

Goolwa's Best on Ground during Round Three, Amber McKinlay, joins our Team of the Week after impressing against a classy Strathalbyn outfit. Rounding out the rotations is the talented Mt Compass player, Taylah Eastwood.

The final two spots in our Round Three GSFLW Team of the Week belong to McLaren youngster Ruby Flanagan-Sjoberg, and Encounter Bay's Best on Ground, Zoe Lush. Both of whom make up this week's emergencies.
