GSFLW Team of the Week - Round Five

We are now in the final stretch of the 2020 GSFL Women's home and away season - and it looks like its going to be a close finish.

Round Five saw Willunga's recent run of domination come to an end, as the Demons fell to last year's Grand Finalist, McLaren. 21 points separated the Eagles (46) from the Demons (25) in what was the closest match of this round.

Following their big win the previous round, Encounter Bay fell back to earth with a 1.0 (6) to 9.10 (64) defeat at the hands of Goolwa. While the reigning premiers brushed aside Yankalilla - as Strathalbyn piled on 14.9 (92) to the Tigers sole point.

The final match of Round Five was also the most one-sided, with Mt Compass finishing with 17.13 (115) to Victor Harbor's nothing.

Scroll down to see this round's Team of the Week, plus a small breakdown of the named side.

Captain: Demi Sharp

Vice-Captain: Emogen Johnson

Following their huge wins on the weekend, both Strathalbyn and Mt Compass sit with the most named players with five apiece. Behind them is the other three sides that are pushing for a finals spot, with Goolwa, Willunga and McLaren all sitting with four named players.

This week's Captaincy goes to Mt Compass's Demi Sharp, following her three goal performance on the weekend. The Vice-Captaincy goes to a Strathalbyn youngster that was named as their second Best on Ground during their big win, which is none other than Emogen Johnson.

We say this a lot - but this week's forward line is certainly the most dangerous we have put together yet, with the six named players all combining for 18 goals on the weekend. Spearheaded by Mt Compass's Olivia Bendt and Strathalbyn's Indigo Miller who both booted five goals. Miller's Rooster teammate, Emily Cozamanis, also makes our forward line following her three goal performance. Joining them is a McLaren duo of Sally Fuller (three goals) and Kelli Nijhuis (two goals), and rounding out our offence is Willunga's Best on Ground, Bridie Nye.

Goolwa's presence is felt through our midfield, with Rachel Searle (three goals) joined by the Magpies Best on Ground, Renee Moon. While on the opposite wing is a familiar name from Willunga in Caitlin Radbone. Another of Willunga's best finds herself as our ruck in Ella Radbone - and rounding out our followers is this week's Vice-Captain, Emogen Johnson, along with Mt Compass's Tasja Batzavalis (two goals).

A SANFLW experienced duo from McLaren makes our back line, in Emma Gryczewski and Layla Rogers. Joining them is this week's Captain, Demi Sharp (three goals), as well as Strathalbyn's Morgan Tucker, and although she was actually playing in the midfield on the weekend, Annabel Thomas also finds herself in our defense - alongside Yankalilla's Tegan Cross.

Rounding out this week's side is Willunga's Colbie Frankland (two goals), Mt Compass's Taylah Eastwood, and a Goolwa duo of Asha Bell (two goals) and Caitlin Curyer. The final three spots includes another talented Compass player in Mykala Walker-Murphy (two goals), as well as Yankalilla's Best on ground, Natasha Hunt, and Encounter Bay's only named player for this week, young Georgia Harrington.
