GSFLW Team of the Week - Round Seven

Another round, another win for Mt Compass; Round Seven sees the Bulldogs stretch their winning streak to seven while the Demons, Eagles and Magpies all collect strong wins.

A fast start by Mt Compass saw the Bulldogs keep Yankalilla at arms length to win, 7.11 (53) to 4.3 (27). Kicking two unanswered goals during the opening term, the ladder-leaders managed to keep this healthy buffer throughout the game; whereas the Tigers, whose goals came from Dakota Oniszk and Kimberly Robinson, attempted to claw themselves back but ultimately this fast start proved too much of a hurdle to overcome.

Willunga's young guns were on full display during their 146 point win over Encounter Bay, 23.8 (146) to 0.0 (0). Shae Archbold and Jessica Harris combined for 14 goals for the red and white, this youth mixed in with the likes of Katrice Turner and SANFLW listed Panther Lauren Clifton, proved way too much for the Bays to handle.

The traditional GSFLW rivalry ended with a 44 point win in favour of McLaren, 0.2 (2) to 7.4 (46). Strathalbyn and McLaren, the two sides that were the safe bet for the Grand Final during the competition's first few seasons; meaning that this game would have usually been a top of the table clash. Instead, the Eagles relatively brushed aside their famous foe, with the help of Shenna Peters up forward and our favourite Rogers-Ross duo.

Victor Harbor welcomed back their favourite youngster, Jaimee Millard; but even her return wasn't enough to inspire a win for the Kangaroos. Falling to a 0.1 (1) to 10.10 (70) defeat at the hands of Goolwa, the Magpies could have registered an even bigger victory--if not for some wayward kicking.

Scroll down to see this round's Team of the Week, plus a small breakdown of the squad.

Captain: Shae Archbold Vice-Captain: Jessica Harris

Once again, each Great Southern side has been represented in our Team of the Week; with Willunga and McLaren leading the way with six and five named players respectively.

In a rare occasion, the Team of the Week leaders come from the same side, with the Round Seven Captain being Willunga young-gun, Shae Archbold and the Vice-Captain being Jessica Harris.

Headlining this week's attack is a super exciting Willunga duo who also just happen to be the two leaders of our Round Seven side; with Shae Archbold and Jessica Harris making the side after kicking eight goals and six goals respectively.

McLaren's Sheena Peters and Goolwa's Megan Hoad make up the 'spine' of the forward line this week, while McLaren youngster Ruby Flanagan-Sjoberg finds herself on the flank.

Strong Mt Compass performer, Heidi Smith, joins the side as well this week after booting three goals during the Bulldogs seventh straight win of the year.

The rucking duties for this week return to McLaren's premiership ruck, Jessica Veasey, who is continuing to stake her claim as one of the competition's best rucks.

Calling the followers home is one of the most reliable Willunga players which is none other than Katrice Turner, and joining her on the wing is fellow fast-paced Demon, Lauren Clifton.

Of course, the Team of the Week midfield wouldn't be complete without our new favourite duo, the Rogers-Ross duo, with Caitlin Ross being named amognst the followers while Layla Rogers finds herself on the wing after booting two majors for McLaren.

The final spot in the midfield belongs to Victor Harbor's exciting youngster, Jaimee Millard, who made an impact for the Kangaroos with a Best on Ground performance.

This week's backline is home to more midfield/defenders than traditional defenders; yet its potency still remains. Demons' rebounder Caitlin Radbone spearheads the defense this week, alongside Yankalilla's defensive minded midfielder, Colbie Frankland.

A Strathalbyn duo of Tessa Grant and the ever so reliable Morgan Tucker, also join our side this week after impressing for the Roosters.

Usually a half backer, Jodie Hunt joins the side this week after impressing for the Demons in a game where she also managed to push up more into attack--perhaps due to the one-sided nature of their Round Seven clash.

The final spot down back belongs to Goolwa's Asha Bell, who continues to impress this season after putting together a stellar season last year.

Kiara Upitis, the Bulldogs Best on Ground, joins the rotations this week alongside the reliable Mt Compass player, Stacey Dale.

This Bulldogs duo is joined by Goolwa tall, Rachel Searle, who makes the side for the second week in a row after impressing in the black and white. The final spot amognst the rotations belongs to Yankalilla's Nari Wright, who has really found her stride at the mid point of this season.

The last two spots in the Round Seven GSFLW MWM Team of the Week belongs to Mt Compass goal kicker, Megan Tilby, and Encounter Bay's Best on Ground, Kate Sanders.
