SANFLW Team of the Week - Round Seven

Round Seven of the SANFL Women’s competition saw more one-sided games than what most would have predicted. The ladder leading Roosters easily pushed aside the fourth placed Redlegs, while both the Bulldogs and the Tigers bounced back with huge wins over their respective opponents.

The closest game of Round Seven was between the second placed Panthers and the third placed Bloods – out of which South Adelaide won by just under three goals.

With the race for a finals position heating up - we have brought together all of this round's best performers and put them into our SANFLW Team of the Week.

Scroll down to see this round’s Team of the Week, and a small breakdown of the side.

Coach: Rick Watts (South Adelaide)

Captain: Lauren Buchanan

Vice-Captain: Tess Kohn

There was a lot of competition for spots in this round’s Team of the Week, which is why even Renee Forth, and Stevie-Lee Thompson missed out. Central District and South Adelaide hold the most spots with five each, while both Glenelg and North Adelaide each have four spots.

As for this week’s coach, we have selected the head coach of the team that won the battle for second spot, and that is South Adelaide’s 2019 Premiership coach, Rick Watts. As for the leaders, two-time premiership captain Lauren Buchanan made a noticeable difference to the Panthers with her guidance in defense, so because of this she receives this week’s captaincy. As for the vice-captaincy, with have selected Glenelg young-gun Tess Kohn because of how valuable she is proving to be for the Tigers.

With Katelyn Rosenzweig’s three goals, and Teah Charlton and Kiana Lee both kicking two goals, they were obvious choices for this round’s forward line. Young gun Gypsy Schirmer played her best game in the blue and white thus far, and her along with Hannah Ewings adds some valuable pace up forward.

The best on ground for North Adelaide, Amber Ward, sits nicely at half back, while another impressive Rooster, Cristie Castle, sits at the opposite end of the ground. Joining Amber in defense is this week’s captain, Lauren Buchanan, as well as the very reliable Jaslynne Smith and young Keeley Kustermann. The AFLW experienced duo of Maddi Newman and Deni Varnhagen round out this week’s backline.

Sturt’s best on ground, Zoe Prowse, holds her spot in the side as the ruck, while joining her in the middle is Lauren Smith and Rachelle Martin. Also, in the midfield is this week’s Vice-Captain, Tess Kohn, while for the seventh consecutive time Matilda Zander holds her spot. Making the Team of the Week for the first time following an impressive performance for the Bulldogs is Caitlen Teague.

Two more Bulldogs are named on the interchange, which are Maddy Lane and Shelby Smith. Joining them is Sam Franson and Brittany Perry. South Adelaide’s Indy Tahau, Glenelg’s Ellie Kellock and Norwood’s Mattea Breed round out this round’s Team of the Week.
