SFLW Team of the Week - Round Eight

Updated: Sep 30, 2020

Round Eight was a fitting way to farewell the SFLWs home and away season for 2020--with the top three sides all putting on impressive displays, and registering equally impressive wins.

Christies Beach defeated Aldinga, 8.11 (59) to 3.1 (19) to complete the perfect regular season--finishing minor premiers with seven wins from seven matches.

Flagstaff Hill also narrowly got over their tough opponents in Reynella, 2.4 (16) to 1.3 (9), while Cove came out on top with a win over Morphett Vale, 7.9 (51) to 5.5 (35).

With Round Eight being the last minor round of the SFLW and thus our last Team of the Week for the year--Minutes with Moose would like to thank our wonderful contacts at each club that helped us throughout the season, as well as a certain-someone that helped drive the series in the first place.

Scroll down to see this round's Team of the Week, plus a small breakdown of the squad.

Captain: Tamsyn Morriss

Vice-Captain: Dana O'Brien

With the biggest win of the round, Christies Beach has been well-represented in this week's side with six named players--followed by Cove with five, and both Reynella and Flagstaff Hill with four.

This week's Captaincy goes to the Best on Ground during the Falcons tight-win, Tamsyn Morris. The Vice-Captaincy goes to the Cobras' Best on Ground, Dana O'Brien.

Joining this week's Captain down back is a fellow Falcon teammate of hers in Kelsey Rodman--and continuing with the duos theme, the backline is also home to a duo of Reynella talent in Brina Thompson and Georgia Pennifold. Also named down back is Aldinga's Best on Ground from the weekend, Jaimi Griffen, as well as Morphett Vale's Best on Ground, Brooke O'Brien.

This week's followers have been injected with a bit of South Adelaide flavour, with Aldinga's Sophia Flanagan-Sjoberg joined by Nicole Campbell, the latter of which booted two goals during the Saints big win. Rounding out the followers and the midfield is Reynella's Best on Ground, Cassandra Newbury, and a teammate of hers, Anja Bancevic-- as well as Layla Dungey from Cove and Pamela May from Christies Beach.

This week's forward line is heavily influenced by the Saints big win, but it is also home to Soriah Moon who booted two goals for the Falcons on the weekend, as well as Kate Dunn who kicked three goals for the Emus, and Jeanie Papps who kicked two goals for the Sharks. As for the trio of Saints, that includes Emma Crisp, Emily Ristiano, and perhaps the main focus of Round Eight, young Indiana Flynn who booted two goals and was named fourth best.

A Cove duo makes our interchange in Aidene Parr and our Vice-Captain, Dana O'Brien--while the other two spots belong to Hannah Fitzpatrick from Morphett Vale, and the Saints best on Ground, Melanie Koster.

The final three spots in our final SFLW Team of the Week for 2020 belong to two Cobras who made their best players, Lauren Kenney and Renee Ullrich, as well as Shay'Lee Dayman from Flagstaff Hill.
