SFLW Team of the Week - Round Five

Updated: Aug 17, 2020

Round Five of the Southern Football League Women's competition saw Christies Beach gain a valuable edge over Reynella, as their 6.11 (47) to 5.2 (32) win sees the Saints now sit a game clear in top spot.

The round also saw Morphett Vale make easy work of Hackham thanks to a dominate performance by Kate Dunn - which saw her boot over half of her sides goals as they came out on top with a 12.10 (82) to 1.2 (8) win.

Flagstaff Hill also caused a bit of an upset during their Round Five match as they won 5.8 (38) to 2.1 (13) in what was Cove's first loss of the season.

See all of the best performers from another great weekend of SFLW footy with our Team of the Week.

Scroll down to see this round's Team of the Week, plus a small breakdown of the squad.

Captain: Kate Dunn

Vice-Captain: Alana Browne

The two ladder leaders as well as the underdog winner of Round Five sit with the most named players in this week's team, as Flagstaff Hill, Reynella and Christies Beach all have five named players. Following close behind is Morphett Vale with four, then both Hackham and Cove with three named players each.

As for this week's leaders, it is difficult to go past Morphett Vale's Kate Dunn who booted seven out of her side's twelve goals during their big win. As for the Vice-Captaincy, that goes to Hackham's second Best on Ground, the ever-reliable Alana Browne.

Joining this week's Captain in the forward line is a Christies Beach trio of Tamara Page, Paige Kiley and Kate Armstrong - the last of which booted two goals during the Saints top of the table win. Keeping her spot in the side is Morphett Vale's Katelyn Wilson who kicked two goals, and Flagstaff Hill's Soriah Moon who finished her game with two goals as well.

Joining this week's Vice-Captain as a follower is the Saints' Best on Ground Tayla Weinert, as well as a familiar Reynella name in Shanique West. Across the midfield we have a Falcon duo of Hannah Griffin and Alana Baker - the first of which was Flagstaff's Best on Ground during their win. On the other wing we have Cove's Layla Dungey.

This week's defence is home to a trio of Reynella players, with Zannah Loxton, Rebecca Denyer, and their Best on Ground, Lauren Fisher, all calling it home. Hackham's Samantha Smith also finds herself in our backline again - while the two remaining spots go to two goal kicking defenders, Hannah Armstrong and Flagstaff Hill's Emily Brockhurst.

This week's interchange is made up of two talented talls, Reynella's Anja Bancevic and Morphett Vale's Emma Morrison. As well as an experienced SANFLW youngster and talented Flagstaff Hill player, Tamsyn Morriss - and the last spot on the interchange goes to Cove's Best on Ground, Dana O'Brien.

The final three spots in our Round Five SFLW Team of the Week go to a Christies Beach youngster and goalkicker, Lily Lee, as well a reliable Hackham performer and their Best on Ground, Chelsea Deeth and finally, another talented Cove player in Jaimie Norup.
