SFLW Team of the Week - Round Seven

SFLW Round 7 saw the Falcons shake off the resilient Cockledivers, the Sharks snapped a winless streak with a hard-fought win over the Cobras, and the Saints bounced back with a thumping win against the Hawks.

The reigning premiers ground out a hard-fought 13-point win over Port Noarlunga, 2.2 (14) to 0.1 (1).

Flagstaff Hill managed to do enough damage in the first and third quarters to claim the win - but Port Noarlunga did not make it easy for them.

The rejuvenated Cockledivers only trailed by a goal at halftime: a far cry from what the result would have looked like last year. Belinda Macrow and Belinda Gale were impressive in the blue and white - while Ebony Scanlan, Alana Baker and Chloe Meyers were some of the standouts in the red and blue.

A fast start by Aldinga saw them claim a much-needed 10-point over Cove, 3.1 (19) to 1.3 (9).

Maybe wet weather suits the Sharks? This result suggests they do. Aldinga did most - well in fact all of - the damage during the first half as they scored 3 unanswered goals.

The Cobras, spearheaded by Ella Gill and Dana O'Brien, attempted a late fightback but they could only register 1.1 (7) - leaving them 10 points shy of the Sharks who were well-supplied by Eilish and Amber O'Hanlon.

Christies Beach got their season back on track with a 110-point win over Hackham, 15.20 (110) to 0.0 (0).

The Saints booted 6 unanswered goals during the first term - and the game was theirs from there onwards.

Emily Risitano and Sarah Nottle did most of the scoring. These two Saints combined for 9 goals - which outscores every other team from the weekend. The poor Hawks had some highlights through the performance of Alice Worrall and Olivia Cumming.

Scroll down to see the Team of the Week, plus a minor breakdown of the squad.

Captain: Melanie Koster

Vice-Captain: Eilish O'Hanlon

FORWARDS:

Sarah Nottle and Emily Risitano seemed to relish the weekend's tough conditions. These two Saints combined for 9 of their team's 15 goals, with Risitano registering the highest haul of the round.

A Port Noarlunga pair, Shakira Dolman and Belinda Gale, also find themselves up forward this week after impressing against tough conditions and tough opposition. The latter of who was labelled as the Cockledivers' Best on Ground.

Eilish O'Hanlon, the versatile Shark - who doubles as this week's vice-captain - finds herself up forward after being an integral part of Alindga's much-needed, and deserved, win. Flagstaff Hill's Ebony Scanlan was also impressive once again.

MIDFIELDERS/FOLLOWERS:

Neriah Milis regains rucking duties this week after impressing in the wet for the Saints. Milis is joined on-ball by a fellow impressive Saint performer in Melanie Koster. The consistent displays of Koster have earned her this week's title of team captain.

Tamsyn Morriss, Flagstaff Hill's consistent performer, once again makes the Team of the Week after putting on another strong display for the Falcons. Fellow hard-running Falcon Alana Baker and classy Cove prospect Ella Gill find themselves on the wings this week.

In between the wings is Cove midfielder, Dana O'Brien. O'Brien tried tirelessly to spur the Cobras onto victory - typified by her Best on Ground selection.

DEFENDERS:

Forming the spine of this week's backline is a pair of Shark defenders, Chantal Sibley and Amber O'Hanlon. While Ashleigh Need and Jasmine Dietrich have continued their string of solid performances with another decent outing for Cove.

Although she is usually an on-baller: the IQ and tagging ability of Port Noarlunga leader Kaiya Ivett was on full display during the Cockliever's sodden slog against the reigning premiers. Also finding herself behind the ball this week is talented Falcon, Chloe Meyers.

INTERCHANGE/EMERGENCIES:

Alindga's Kimberly Robinson brings some talent to the rotations this week. While Belinda Macrow adds some class after being judged as the Cockledivers' second Best on Ground.

Liliana Volpato, a Christies product, also joins the backup brigade this week after impressing in the Saints' one-sided win. And, after putting on a strong display, Nicole O'Connor from Flagstaff Hill rounds out this week's rotations nicely.

Rounding out the MWM SFLW Team of the Week is Alice Worrall, who was Hackham's Best on Ground; and Jolie Malinowski, a Port Noarlunga talent.
