SFLW Team of the Week - Round Six
The results on the weekend have meant Reynella continues its reign at the top of the ladder, Flagstaff Hill remains within striking distance of the top, and Port Noarlunga has reinforced its spot at third.
Reynella reinforced their position at the top of the table with a 132-point over Aldinga, 19.18 (132) to 0.0 (0). The top of the table Wineflies was ruthless in attack: they had 7 multiple goal scorers and they had built a 77-point lead by halftime.
This was helped in part by the Reynella rucks, who were outstanding. Anja Bancevic was labelled as their Best on the Ground while Grace Doran kicked 4 goals. For the Sharks, they had Kimberly Robinson, India Hamdorf and Kiara Lovett among their best.
Port Noarlunga sit 2 games clear in the third spot following their hard-fought win over Cove by 11 points, 4.6 (30) to 3.1 (19). In what was the game of the round: the Cobras started in front before a second term surge by the Cockledivers broke the game open in their favour.
Cove was once again well-supplied by Lauren Kenny, while Mikala Graham and Dana O’Brien were also among their standouts. Bree Chapman and Samantha Lynch were impressive for Porties, while Madison Harris kicked 2 crucial goals.
Flagstaff Hill remain in touch with the top spot after they stormed home to defeat Christies Beach by 71 points, 11.13 (79) to 1.2 (8). The Falcons only led the Saints by 7 points at the first break but – after quarter-time – Flaggies piled on 9 unanswered goals to secure the win.
Brooke Kleinig and Shaylee Dayman were impressive for Flagstaff Hill – as were Ebony Scanlan and Indianna Roberts who finished with 3 goals each. The Saints best included the likes of Tayla Cook, Cassandra Quigley, and Rachael Farlam.

Captain: Grace Doran
Vice-Captain: Brooke Kleinig
The rucking qualities of Grace Doran have turned her into quite an amazing key forward. This Reynella player put on an amazing display on the weekend that has not only seen her be named as the Round 6 Team of the Week Captain, but this display also resulted in her 4-goal haul.
Alongside Doran were other Reynella players who fancied getting on the scoreboard. Georgia Scholes added 3 goals to her season tally while Casie Coombe (2 goals) was impressive around the ground as well as up forward.
Ebony Scanlan was outstanding for the Falcons. Making the most of the one-sided clash, this Falcon struck with 3 goals which have seen her season tally rise to 8 goals, from just 3 matches.
As good as it is for a forward to kick goals during a one-sided game: there is something special about them doing it during a nail-biting clash. And this is exactly what Madison Harris did when she kicked 2 goals during Port Noarlunga’s 11-point win.
Likewise, Port Noarlunga was well-supplied by Ella Slape – whose strong display included a valuable goal.
Anja Bancevic was a star during Reynella’s big win. Bancevic is arguably the best ruck in the competition at the moment – and she certainly showed some of this class on the weekend.
But an on-ball brigade is made up of more than just a ruck – and this week’s on-ballers are some of the best that the league have to offer. Included in this is the all-star Flagstaff Hill duo of Brooke Kleinig and Tamsyn Morriss, along with Reynella’s Morgan Blackwell.
The wings belong to the hard-running Alana Baker, Flagstaff Hill; and the goal-scoring Reynella performer, Caitlin Walter.
While the results this weekend didn’t go in the Cobras’ favour: they should at least still be pleased with the continued performance of Ashleigh Need and Jasmine Dietrich. Likewise, the Sharks had some strong contributors in the form of Kiara Lovett and Darlene Bishop.
And, sticking with the duo theme, Christies Beach ruck/defender Rachael Farlam and Cassandra Quigley round out this week’s backline after they performed well on the weekend despite facing off against the reigning primers' classy forward line.
Port Noarlunga’s Bree Chapman adds some talented skills to this week’s rotations. While Cove’s Lauren Kenny brings some reliability and class to the side – has been a consistent performer for the Cobras throughout the season so far.
And Indiana Roberts brings the goals to the rotations: having kicked 3 for the Falcons on the weekend.
Rounding out the interchange this week is Christies Beach youngster, Tayla Cook. One of the main stories from the weekend: Cook welcomed herself to SFLW league footy with a Best on Ground display for the Saints.
Philippa Worthley, the explosive Port Noarlunga prospect, and Shaylee Dayman, a star Falcon, round out the Round 6 MWM SFLW Team of the Week.
