Tahlita Buethke - the Graceful T

Updated: Dec 30, 2019

What is one of the first things you do when you start a new sport?

For most, the answer is simple; learn, grow and improve.

But occasionally, the person turns out to be a natural.

For Tahlita, she literally hit the ground running with her football career.

That is not just “because I love to run”. Nope, she definitely did a lot more than just that.

So, how did she get interested in football to begin with?

“I wanted to meet new girls and also I enjoyed watching footy and loved the game. I always dreamed of playing it, so I did.”

2017 marked her first year of playing football with Willunga’s U16 women’s side;

And “in 2017, I won the Best and Fairest for the league and the leading goal kicker”.

That is good sign that you’re playing the right sport, but she didn’t stop there.

Working hard to develop and improve on her first season of football.

She returned the following year with Willunga’s U16s and "in 2018, I won the Best and Fairest and Leading Goal Kicker”.

Yes, that is not a writing mistake; that is correct. She did exactly the same thing as she had done in her first season; play brilliantly.

Then "this year I went to McLaren as I play netball there also”.

It is by no means a surprise when you see what she has done in football; to hear that she is even more accomplished in netball.

However, she is too humble to admit exactly how much more accomplished.

Now in 2019 and with the McLaren Football Club; “I won the leading goal kicking in the opens!”

She was also selected to represent Southern Districts in the Country Championships in Port Pire this year and her achievements didn’t stop there;

“It was one of the best experiences I’ve had in footy, playing with women who all have really amazing talent was so great! And it was great to win the Grand Final and get the Best on Ground in it!”

However, despite a remarkable career for just three years of football; she is extremely humble, and would much prefer to talk about her teammates rather than herself;

“Layla Rogers is a gun to play with, we work together a lot! Sally is also amazing. There’s too many to name!”

“Layla and I just work really well together; we always back each other up and Sally is just so supportive.”

And out of everything she has accomplished in both football and netball; her favourite memories are in fact;

“Making all new friends! Playing in a Grand Final and Winning!”

Going forwards for the promising player; she hopes to one day follow in the footsteps of her idol Erin Phillips and play for the Adelaide Crows.

As well as hoping to make herself a career away from footy;

“I would like to do a cert 4 in fitness and see if I can go further in footy.”

With her advice for fellow footballers being;

“Go give it a go, you never know until you try it!”

No one can for say for sure where Tahlita’s promising and bright path will lead her; all we can say is that with the amount of effort she puts in; it is bound to great.
