Twelve Questions with Emma Willoughby
First Year of Footy: This year but I have been following football my whole life
Current Team: Cove Cobras
Favourite Playing Position: Centre Half Forward
Playing Number: Varies every week unfortunately
What is your favourite way to spend an off-day?
“So I’m a busy bee and I’m a full time registered nurse so working shift work and playing are a bit tricky but I love the game and love my rewarding career too. On my day off I love to go surfing, fishing, or have self-care day by putting on a face mask and binging my favourite movies.”
What is your favourite oval to play on and why?
"100 per cent Cove Oval, it’s our home ground and everyone gets around and supports us when we play and train. Every Thursday we train with the A Grade men’s team too.”
What was it that motivated you to play footy?
"I have always loved play team sports, mingling with the girls and I am also a very competitive person. I played state netball a few years ago and represented South Australia in Sydney, I’m back from injuries and ready to play.“
How would you describe your own footballing journey?
"So I’ve always been surrounded by football as my dad played for Lockleys and we love the Adelaide Crows but I only just started playing this season and I’m loving it.”
What has been your favourite footballing experience and why?
"Just purely winning games and all us girls getting around each other and singing our song.”
Who is your sporting/footy role model and why?
"I’d have to say Tex Walker, I mean what a superstar. Being a role model and captain during the season where they lost the grand final and then still being Captain and then focusing on being a part of the team and smashing goals and showing great leadership. What a champ.”
What would you say is your most favourite and least favourite thing about footy?
"Most favourite, just playing with the cove girls and socialising! We love to communicate through social media outside of footy so I love snap chatting the girls and just being a part of an awesome team.”
“Least favourite, players on the opposing team and being unsportsmanlike by doing dangerous tackles like a sling tackle, not cool at all.”
